The Excellent Properties of Galvalume® Metal Roofing
The new technology of Galvalume® metal roofing utilizes the product Galvalume®, which is 55% aluminum – 45% zinc alloy coated steel. For residential roofs, factory pre-painted Galvalume® metal roof sheets are generally used to impart color and durability, although some architects and homeowners use bare galvalume metal roofing because they like the look of its bright metallic surface. It can be put on as a new roof or retrofitted over old roofs.

Why Is Galvalume® a Good Material for Roofing?
Galvalume® metal roof shingles are an ideal material for roofing because of their extraordinary, outdoor corrosion resistance, and resulting long life. The metal roofing can be readily roll-formed into a variety of panels, as well as formed and stamped into tile and shingle facsimiles. Most importantly, it can be used in modern day steel roof designs that are strong, yet lightweight. Moreover, unlike conventional non-metallic roof systems, Galvalume® sheet roofs will not crack and peel when subjected to the sun and weather.
How Does Galvalume® Roofing Compare with Galvanized Roofing?
Galvalume® metal roofs have been successfully used in roofing applications for more than 25 years; it has been evaluated in outdoor R&D tests for well over 30 years. Based on these tests, in which corrosion weight losses were measured and compared with galvanized metal roofing, the Galvalume® sheet is projected to outlast the galvanized sheet (with an equivalent coating thickness) in various atmospheric conditions by up to nine times (9X’s). These roofs are projected to last 30 to 40 years before requiring major maintenance.

What is the Reflectivity of Galvalume® Metal Roofing?
The Galvalume® metal roof has good heat and sunlight reflectivity. During the summer, it makes homes cooler by efficiently reflecting away sunlight and reducing the amount of heat transmitted into the home. Likewise, it makes homes warmer in the winter by reflecting inside heat from the underside of the roof back into the home. This good thermal reflectivity translates into energy savings for the homeowner by reducing cooling costs in the summer and heating costs in the winter.
