5 Easy Steps for Installing a Metal Roof Ridge Vent
A key part of any ventilation strategy on a metal roof is a metal roof ridge vent, which exhausts hot air from the highest point in your attic, without help from fans or blowers. All it needs is a balanced amount of fresh air entering the attic, usually through soffit vents (also called under-eave vents), gable vents or both. Effective metal roof ventilation using a metal roofing ridge vent lets you cut your air-conditioning bill by up to 30%, and helps your metal roof shingles last longer, too.
Ridge Vent Installation Preparation
Metal roof ridge vents adjust to different roof pitches and come in painted metal versions. To estimate how many feet of vent you will need, just measure the length of the roof peak or ridge, minus any sections interrupted by chimneys or sidewalls.
Things You Will Need:
- Roof ridge vent (sold in linear feet)
- Roofing nails
- Roofing straps
- Carpenter’s hand and power tools
